Entering the Library

Currently, the Howard University Libraries and the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center are open to the Howard community (student, faculty, and staff) and is closed the public until further notice. However, borrowing privileges depend on your university or library affiliation.

Please note, that as a private institution, Howard has the legal right to bar anyone from any or all parts of its premises. Disruptive or inappropriate behavior of any kind may result in suspension of visitor access.

Hours of Operation

Howard University Libraries are open during the following hours:

Founders Library 

Monday – Thursday        8:00 am – 10:00 pm 

Friday                                    8:00 am – 5:00 pm 

Saturday                              9:00 am – 6:00 pm 

Sunday                                 1:30 pm – 10:00 pm 

Undergraduate Library (UGL) 

Monday – Thursday        8:00 am – 12:00 midnight 

Friday                                    8:00 am – 5:00 pm 

Saturday                              9:00 am – 6:00 pm 

Sunday                                 1:30 pm – 10: 00 pm 

The Divinity collection will be accessible at the Howard School of Law Library. Please refer to their website for hours of operation and access requirements.

The Business Library follows the same hours as Founders Library.

Tour Groups

As an important architectural structure and the iconic University symbol, many people like to tour Founders Library and the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center (MSRC) Reading Room.

Although we understand the desire to visit our wonderful building, we are not conducting tours in the building until further notice.
